 Lay down at the bottom of the Monti Lattari, Scala is one of the villages of the Amalfitan Coast, it was built by the Romans, which were shipwrecked along this coast while thay were going to Costantinopoli. A huge storm hit the Roman's ships throwing the survivors on the coasts. After that, the Roamns has decided to stay in the zone that has helped and protected them.

So has it was occurred to many other villages along the coast, the history and the events about Scala are linked to the Amalfitan Republic fate. Scala was called "Leonessa di Amalfi", and during the most important and splendid period of Amalfi many buildings and churches were built. These wonderful structures are evidences of the ancient lavishness of that period.

History and nature are the huge patrimony of Scala. All these elements has made this ancient suburb a perfect destination for who likes to enjoy long walks and excursions up the mountains. There are plenty of paths to choose across the Scala's mountains, most of which started from the center of the village itself, the Square of the Town hall, developing through a complex  net of alleys, little streets and steps it's possible to enjoy amazing paths between the cultivation terraces that are full of olive grove and vineyards, an amazing landscape from where is possible to see Ravello and the sea, passing through churches, little medieval settlements, ancient ruins, towers and perfectly ordered lemon grove, the trekking lovers will enjoy unique extraordinary landscapes.

This quiet suburb during th eyears has became a perfect destination for a selected tourism, a perfect place for who is searching a relaxing holiday located in a perfect paradise between sea and mountains, dip in history, religion, culture and uncontaminated nature.

During the period that you can spend in Scala it's impossible to forget to visit the natural reserve called "Vallone delle Ferriere", an amazing place with a rich vegetation and where many rare species are still alive.

Also the gastronomic tradition of Scala has an important role into this territory. All the typical products of the zone are made by expert hands in order to enhance the porfumes, the coulours and the tastes of every meal giving to the guests a multisensorial experience. Tasty legumes soups, local little tomatos, oil, vine and finally the most famous product "Il Limoncello".

Summer

In the summer there are planty of cultural e musical events. Medieval concerts,  medieval commemorations of knights fightings, many nights dedicated to the reading, all these events fill the fresh air of this suburb during the summer niights. One of the most important events is "Scala met New York", this manifestation built an ideal bridge between the most ancient village of the Amalfitan Coast and the American metropolis, symbol of the modern times. Many special guests coming here every year from Italy and U.S. in order to partecipate to this important event that is growing up every year, there are specila guests in many different fields: politic, art and culture characters from both countries.
