Atrani, since the ancient times, has been destination for a quiet and romantic tourism. The village offer amazing path from its center climbing the muntains through cover alleys, courts and "scalinatelle" (little steps), from where is possible to enjoy a fabulous landscape that you'll never forget.

Atrani is an ancient romantic village placed at the bottom of the mountain. The village has the shape of a little amphitheatre creek on the sea. Many house one near the other, little alley and many flights of steps that started from the main square, climbing the mountains placed in the back. Atrani was the residence of the "Duchi della Repibblica Amalfitana" (Dukes of the Amalfitan Republic), it was plundered by the Pisani and it was home of a big Saracen colony. Not many people knows that Atrani is the birth place of the famous leader Masaniello, who led the Napolitan revolt against the Spanish.

A rich History that is shown to us from the ancient churches and the historical buildings. Atrani is one of the most little village in Italy, a place of fishermen that still get its ancient architectural structure and the old agricoltural traditions.

You can find on every balcony: "Mentuccia" (particular mint), basel and chili pepper; the alleys of the village are full of these flavors. It's easy to stop by talking with the friendly population, listening the suggestions and tips about the things that you can see or about the particular cakes to taste during the visit in Atrani.

There are many "orticelli" (little gardens where people farms homegrown vegetables), where following the tradition the farmers take care of amazing vegetables with an beliveable taste. These local products are the main ingredients for many typical recipts like the "melanzane sott'olio" (eggplant in oil). The country side of the village is full of: olive trees, vineyards and lemon groves, which are the main cultivations of the zone.La piazzetta

With no doubt fishing is the most important activity of this place, it's amazing to watch the lights of the fishermen's boats in the night dancing on the sea, images that stimulate the fantasy of everyone.

A postcard that invites everybody to comeback to this splendid place.

Gastronomic

The traditional Atrani's cookery is based on unique recipts, a mix of sea and mountains, fishes and soil products that only in this particular place can become cooking art. Between the special plates of this place, the "Sarchiapone" is one of the most curious recipt, it's a plate made of: pumpkin, cheese and mince meat. This is the tradional meal during the feast of Santa Maria Maddalena, patroness of the village. All the plates made with fresh fish catched in the sea near the village are delicious meals. Duriong the summer the "Sagra del Pesce Azzurro", (celebration of the blue fish), is a special event for all the little villages around. During this period the fish is cooked with the traditional recipt and gave to the visitorn  in the little squares of the village.
